He is currently a Distinguished Professor at the University of California, Irvine and has published hundreds of cutting-edge scientific articles detailing structure-function relationships and tissue engineering approaches for articular cartilage, the knee meniscus, and the jaw joint. Dr. Athanasiou has made many new discoveries in the medical world and among many other accomplishments, his research has helped athletes with damaged knee joints to remain competitive. Professor Athanasiou is also the former President of the Biomedical Engineering Society and among many other honors, he is a member of the National Academy of Inventors. |
